Saving a screenshot on Windows is a straightforward process. Here's how you can do it from:
Windows 7 and 8
- Using Print Screen (PrtScn):
- Press the 'Print Screen' key on your keyboard. This captures the entire screen and copies it to the clipboard.
- To save the screenshot as an image file, open an image editing program such as Paint.
- Press 'Ctrl + V' to paste the screenshot from the clipboard into the program.
- You can now save the screenshot as an image file (e.g., JPG, PNG) by clicking 'File' > 'Save As' and choosing the desired format and location.
- Using Snipping Tool:
- Open the Snipping Tool by searching for it in the Start menu.
- Click on 'New' and select the area of the screen you want to capture.
- After selecting the area, the Snipping Tool window will display the screenshot.
- Click on 'File' > 'Save As' to save the screenshot as an image file.
Windows 10 and 11:
- Using Print Screen (PrtScn):

- To save the screenshot as an image file, open an image editing program or any application where you can paste images (e.g., Paint, Word, PowerPoint).

- Using Snip & Sketch (Windows 10) or Snip & Sketch / Snipping Tool (Windows 11):
- Open the Snip & Sketch app (Windows 10) or Snip & Sketch / Snipping Tool (Windows 11) by searching for it in the Start menu.
- Click on 'New' or the respective capture option to select the area of the screen you want to capture.
- After selecting the area, the app will display the screenshot.
- Click on 'File' > 'Save As' to save the screenshot as an image file.
For both versions, you can also use the shortcut 'Windows key + Shift + S' to take a screenshot of a selected area of the screen directly to the clipboard, which you can then paste into an application and save as needed.
